The 7th edition of the World Palm Symposium will be held in Brazil, one of the most palm-rich countries of the world!

Rio de Janeiro is located within the Atlantic Forest range, a biome holding several (68 species) palm species, many of which are endemic.

It will be a fantastic opportunity to attend a conference with palm experts from all over the world, while at the same time visiting one of the most beautiful metropolis in the world, surrounded by rich palm communities and unique biodiverse forests.

The event will take place in a scenic convention center in the middle of the Tijuca forest, 20 minutes from Rio de Janeiro downtown. Transportation from hotel area in Rio de Janeiro will be provided daily in the morning and afternoon. All delegates may enjoy the coffee-breaks, lunch and happy hour together offering many opportunities to researchers from different backgrounds, places and career stages to interact.

This is meant to be a family-friendly event and we are doing our best to support a diverse and complete experience for the palm community. Applications for our IPS travel grant are encouraged for everyone, a specially early-career woman with children, that may not be able to join us without financial or logistic support.

We will welcome all delegates with a wonderful opening talk followed by a welcome cocktail. Craft beer with local palm ingredients was brewed specially for the event and launched on this occasion. Early delegates will be able to taste it for an ahead start to the VII World Palm Symposium in Brazil!

The program is organized around three thematic days. Each day will start with parallel sections (symposium sections proposals are welcome until January 2020), progress with a relevant talk on state-of-the-art research on the theme and close with a poster section happy-hour. Parallel meetings from Palm Phylogeny Group, Palm Functional Traits Group, and IUCN Palm Specialist Group are also planned to take place during the conference.

Besides of the three-day conference, we will offer courses before the meeting and field trips after. And of course, organize a conference dinner party in the Brazilian style on the last day of the scientific program!
